The TL-480HD series of monitors are designed specifically for use as on-camera monitors in applications in film and TV production and HD video shooting with DSLR cameras. There are four models, differing in the available video signal connectivity. The most advanced has connections for HDMI, HD/SD-SDI, composite video, will pass through SDI-embedded audio, with on-screen metering, and has an onboard converter to produce an SDI signal from the HDMI input, allowing much longer cable runs. The 4.8 inch LCD screens have high resolution, wide viewing-angle, and are equipped with a collapsible and removable sun-hood, which serves also to protect the LCD screen when closed.

RUIGE LCD VIDEO MONITORS - On Camera

The screens are particularly useful when used with cameras where a zoom-in feature is not available; the screen can zoom in to different parts of the image to show pixel for pixel resolution, to check picture details and assist focus. In addition the screen may be switched to monochrome and the sharpness may be adjusted, useful when focussing. In addition to the familiar menus for setting the monitor, after input from users, the TL-480HD series have rotary controls and switches to control the most frequently used modes and settings.

On the front of the monitor, below the screen are seven push buttons; ‘Lock’, when pressed for three seconds, locks all settings. The next button sets the display ratio; it sequences through 4:3, 16:9 and letterbox aspect ratios. A function button may be programmed by the user, and a ‘scale’ button steps through five different safety-zone markers. The three remaining buttons select between composite, SDI and HDMI inputs. On the right hand side of the screen are three knobs to adjust sharpness, saturation, contrast and brightness. Three of the knobs also have a switching function; the first zooms in the picture, the second switches to monochrome, and the last selects the menu, which is used for the remaining settings.

On the rear, depending on model, are BNC connectors for composite and SDI video in and out, and standard HDMI connectors for the HDMI connectivity. The DC power supply connects using a co-axial connector adjacent to the power switch. The screen may be powered from a 12V source, the included AC adapter, a power cable directly from the camera, where available, or from an external 7.2V camera battery if an accessory battery-plate is fitted. The top and bottom of the monitor both have a standard 1/4 inch threaded aperture to take a standard photographic tripod thread.

Screen size: 4.8 inches. Resolution: 800 x 480(h x v). Dot pitch: 0.13 x 0.13(h x v)mm. Display ratio: 16:9 / 4:3. Brightness: 500cd/sq m. Contrast: 800:1. Response time: 25 ms. Viewing angle: +/- 80 degrees horizontal and vertical. Power source: 12VDC, 9W maximum. Dimensions: 147.3 x 100.8 x 48.4(l x h x d)mm. Weight: 0.5 kg.

Included accessories: Screen hood, hot-shoe camera mount adapter with tilt, AC-DC adapter, HDMI cable. Optional accessories: The HDMI lock adapter is a pack of two plastic housings which screw on the rear panel surrounding the HDMI sockets. These have sliding inner grips which are pushed in to hold the HDMI connectors firmly in place. Battery plates are available to fit to the rear to take a variety of 7.2V DV camera batteries. A power cable is available to power the screen from a D-tap socket where available on the camera or a battery pack.
